Lisbon was made for rooftops. Seven hills, a river that catches the light like nowhere else in Europe, and a sky that turns gold every evening at a time that feels almost unfair.
If you're going to be in this city, you need to spend at least some of it up high. We've spent enough time on Lisbon's terraces — scouting venues, throwing parties, watching sunsets between soundchecks — to know which ones are worth your time. Here are five of our favourites. 1. The Secret Rooftop, Príncipe Real — Lisbaï Rooftop Vol. 2 Venue for July 17
We're not giving everything away just yet — but on July 17, Lisbaï takes over a hidden rooftop terrace tucked into the heart of Príncipe Real, one of Lisbon's most elegant and sought-after neighbourhoods.
Príncipe Real has always been Lisbon at its most quietly confident: beautiful palaces, independent boutiques, the smell of jasmine in the evening.
This rooftop fits right in. Intimate capacity, panoramic views, and the kind of setting that makes you forget there's a city underneath you.

2. Miradouro de Baixo — Carpintarias de São Lázaro, Mouraria
Hidden inside the Carpintarias de São Lázaro cultural centre near Martim Moniz, Miradouro de Baixo is Lisbon's best-kept rooftop secret. The name is a typically Lisboeta joke — the "lowest viewpoint" — but the panorama from the top takes in five of the city's famous miradouros at once.
The vibe here is resolutely local and cultural: DJ sets on Fridays and Saturdays, live Sunday sessions, food stalls and a hybrid glass-and-open structure that works in all weathers. Prices are fair, the crowd is genuinely interesting, and the energy is closer to a cultural event than a bar.
If you want a Lisbon rooftop that feels like Lisbon rather than a postcard of it, this is the one.

5. Hua Ta Li Chinese Restaurant — Martim Moniz (The Budget Secret)
This one is for those in the know. Hua Ta Li is sitting on the 5th floor of the Mouraria shopping centre at Martim Moniz — and its rooftop terrace has one of the best views in the city of the Castelo de São Jorge.
Nobody talks about it. The prices are genuinely affordable, the food is solid (the Peking duck is a classic), and the terrace is large enough to actually find a table. The entrance is easy to miss — take the lift inside the shopping centre up to the 5th floor. Trust us, it's worth the hunt.
A Lisbon insider move: have dinner here first, then walk down to catch a show. Best value view in the city, no argument.

Gandaia Club — The Hidden Rooftop New
The former Insólito bar — one of Lisbon's most beloved rooftop secrets — has been reborn as The Hidden Rooftop, the upstairs half of the newly opened Gandaia Club. And it might just be better than ever.
Sitting above the Independente hotel, right across from the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint on the edge of Bairro Alto and Príncipe Real, the setting is one of Lisbon's most cinematic. The terrace is furnished with plush sofas, mismatched lamps and an eclectic mix of indoor furniture that works surprisingly well outside — intimate, a little mysterious, and very Lisbon.
The programme runs from specialty coffees and Isco pastries in the afternoon to cocktails and DJ sets at sunset and beyond. The best seller Morning Glory — mezcal, rum and pineapple — is exactly what it sounds like. Downstairs at the Gandaia Club restaurant, chef David Vieira's contemporary Portuguese menu is well worth the detour.
One detail worth knowing: access to the rooftop is via a 145-year-old private elevator that fits exactly two people. Which is either charming or terrifying, depending on who you ask.

Carmo Rooftop — Largo do Carmo, Chiado
Carmo Rooftop sits on the terraces of the Carmo Convent, one of Lisbon's most iconic ruins, right in the heart of Chiado. The views take in Rossio Square, the castle, the Santa Justa Lift — basically everything that makes the city's skyline so distinctive.
It's a lively spot: food, cocktails, a DJ on weekends, and a Saturday market that fills the terrace with fashion and jewellery vendors. The crowd is mixed and the atmosphere is relaxed without being sleepy. Go for sunset drinks and stay for the first set.
Worth knowing: it gets busy, especially on weekends — book ahead if you want a table.

This one is personal. The Jam Hotel rooftop is where Lisbaï does some afterwork — and it's no coincidence we keep coming back. Perched above the riverbank warehouse district with a heated pool, sun loungers and a view straight down the Tagus towards the 25 de Abril bridge, it's the kind of spot that makes a Thursday feel like a Saturday.
The vibe is relaxed and creative — no dress code, no pretension, just good music, good cocktails and that Lisbon light doing its thing.
